Ok I'll admit, this isn't the best chinese place i've been to, but you have to appreciate it for what it is, and that's their Bang for the Buck ratio! The thing that impresses me the most about this place is their cleanliness! This is one of the few Chinese (dine in/take out) places I've been to that do a good job at keeping everything up to par. If you dine in, you get hot tea immediately, and all their meals are served quick and HOT. I recently got carry-out and they took an extra small step of wrapping my take out box in foil so that the juices wouldn't drip into the plastic bag. Now that's when you know a restaurant cares about you! Back in the day I used to get General Tso's chicken all the time, on my recent visit I got Mongolian Beef combo. Not the best but still damn good for $6 with enough fried rice, beef and egg roll that you can easily split between 2 big eaters. I'm econo now so I appreciate restaurants that really like to feed hungry people on a budget! I will definitely go here again, but I think I'll dine-in, it's a more comforting experience.

I had food here twice, and it was slightly average to below average chinese grub. But what will keep me away for eternity is their weird coupon policy. They advertise a monthly "family meal" which is a few entrees and things all packed together at a slight discount but nothing huge. I went in to get it, and they refused to let me order it since I didn't have the coupon cut out of the paper. What? It's not like they need to send it "back to corporate" to get reimbursed, it's just their own little crummy little coupon that they print all over the place in the local newspapers. I walked out and have never been back. Nothing like having your own marketing work against you.

Love Oceania for simple, quick, and CHEAP Chinese food. It's not fancy, but it is always clean and well maintained. And what deals on food!! Each month three (3) items are on the 'Lunch' and 'Dinner' specials. Lunch is $3.95 and that includes egg roll, and fried rice. Dinners $8.95. And for each of those you get big portions, an egg roll, and ice cream for dessert! I love the chicken on the Sweet and Sour - most Chinese places give you dark meat, or mixed chicken. Not here - great white meat chicken. Can't go wrong with this place.

Aggressively mediocre chinese food. The prices are not bad, but I can find better food elsewhere.

I stumbled upon this place while going to Trader Joes. I ate alone and my waitress was wonderful. She was very pleasant and took care of me. My food was very good and it came out quickly. No extra charge for soup or egg roll which was a nice surprise. I recommend this place

Great food and the prices make it even better. I have tried several dishes here and none of them have disappointed yet. The portions are also incredibly generous. The only reason I give 4 instead of 5 is because I wish there was a little less breading on the fried things.

Best Chinese Food by far ! In long time, the chicken fried rice was made perfect. The steamed dumplings I couldn't stop eating them they season cooked perfect. The special wonton soup was awesome.

We've tried this restaurant several times. While my wife finds it to be okay I can't stomach what amounts to the cheapest ingredients prepared in the most mundane fashion. Look, its cheap Chinese food and it's quick service. I get it. Our most recent order was I suggest, and hope, is our last. I'm not expecting much with Sweet and Sour Chicken, General Tso's Chicken or Beef and Broccoli. But this stuff is usually a gummy, salty mess. The Chicken nuggets are more breading than chicken. The Wonton Soup is akin to salty, dirty dishwater. The egg rolls and spring rolls are all but indistinguishable, a tasteless lump of muddiness. I wish I could recommend somewhere different. But the fact is the options for Chinese food are pretty poor in our area, and Rochester Hills in general. We'll be looking elsewhere.

For what it is, I don't know how anyone could be upset with Oceania. Carry out lunch specials are the best deal around. $4.25 for a crap ton of greasy Chinese food? Yup. (By crap ton, I mean enough for me to get 3 meals out of it, or 1 normal portion for a teenage boy.) If you're from Rochester Hills, you're probably like me and have been coming here forever, including off-campus lunch during high school. Place your order, and it seems to be ready in 5 minutes no matter what you get. If you want authentic or fancy food, go somewhere else. If you're on a budget and not trying to really impress anyone, Oceania is your best bet.

The food is good but not great. It's cheap but there are better deals. However, the service is wonderful and if you're looking for a dine in experience rather than carry out, I would recommend this place. Plus they serve in courses which is sweet and makes the meal last longer. They aren't just pushing you out the door.

Not good food at all. The menu was typical. But the food was not well made and the chicken had that 'off' flavor typical of day-old refrigerated poultry. We ordered our standards and they were not good at all. The sesame chicken was battered and fried, not just fried and that was not good. Way too cake-y. The steamed dumplings were the worst I've ever had in any Chinese restaurant ever. They were HUGE like bigger than meatballs, but that was not a good thing. Not enough 'noodle' for the amount of bad-tasting meat. And the noodle covering was very dry...also not good. The staff was friendly, but there was not enough staff for as many people that were in the restaurant. Which is surprising since the food was so bad. My kids typically like Chinese food, but since the 'staples' were so different, my kids basically ate nothing and complained. Waste. Actually, the spring rolls were good...but the egg rolls were awful.

Not good. My family and I used to go to the Dixie highway location when I was a kid. I noticed the location on Adams- Walton a few years ago and decided to stop in for lunch. It was pretty mediocre but not bad that time. On my way out I noticed that have ridiculously cheap Carryout deals. So we tried a few of those in the past year or so also and were never impressed. Last night my wife and I were out driving and trying to think of a place to get dinner and I suggested trying Oceana Inn again and assured my wife that they had a dining room, since she never went to the building with me before. She pretty much always orders General Tao's chicken whenever we go out for Chinese, so she ordered that. I asked the waitress about the Shanghai noodles and she said it was just spaghetti. That seemed odd but I'm glad she warned me. They seem to have a pretty expensive regular menu in terms of classic American Chinese fare, $12 entrees etc... but under the table glass they have a cheaply priced menu that they seem to almost use as bait and switch because it seems like whenever anyone tries to order off that one they try to talk you out of it, lol. Her warning worked and I went for the Macau chicken sizzling platter. Wonton soup was alright, so were the egg rolls. Then the entrees came out. Mine was transferred over to some hot platter to make a "sizzle" but the actual food was typical breaded chicken, think almond chicken with vegetables. The fried rice was brown in appearance but didn't have any goodies like vegetables or egg in it. Mine wasn't bad but I wouldn't order it again. My wife didn't appear to be enjoying hers and was picking away at some rice so I asked if she liked it and she said not at all. I gave her some of my dish and tried her chicken. My wife's General Tao's chicken looked normal but the taste was really odd. At first I tasted smokey BBQ sauce but then that flavor was overwhelmed by the taste of kerosene or lighter fluid. I know from experience that this is caused by a careless cook that allowed the oil to scorch and ignite in the pan. Not only that but her chicken looked like it was cooked ahead and held for service. It was tough and chewy and the batter was soggy etc... But the scorched taste made it disgusting. We didn't complain because that's not our way. We ate most of mine and paid and left. I'm not sure why my wife took home the leftovers, she probably thought I might fix it somehow but I threw in in the trash this morning. We won't be back. There are better places to go like Kim's and Cheng's.

I used to eat here 1.5 years ago, it was good in the past. Recently, we tried mangolian beef, it was not tasty at all, not fresh, mainly it had no beef even though its called mangolian BEEF, i was looking for them actually. large quantities though. I was disappointed by this place

I placed a carry out order yesterday. Ordered shrimp with Shanghai noodles for lunch. Good portion & good food. Prices for a Chinese take out place were a little high, but this IS Rochester... Food was good & the shrimp was larger than most Chinese take out places.

I have had a difficult time finding delicious Chinese takeout...until now! Always fresh, always quick, with a full menu that even includes healthy choices. No MSG, and brown rice available. The Happy Meal is very reasonable, and always includes a yummy selection of dishes, awesome variety!! They've been at this location forever, call them for your next meal!

well, it had been about 3 years since I was here last and I stopped in Thursday evening for dinner. I remember the yellow gravy they feature with the almond boneless chicken and it sounded like it was just the ticket for what I craved. The meal came with egg drop soup, egg roll and ice cream. Soup was good, egg roll seemed to be a bit sparse as far as ingredients and flavor. The almond boneless chicken was just ok and the gravy a bit more bland than I had recalled. I spiced it up with some red pepper oil and hot mustard. The portion was more than enough so I have to give them credit for that. Would have been a three (3) star rating but the waitress was horrible. She took my rice crackers I got with the soup away while I was eating them. My water glass was left empty even though the people at the next table got theirs filled. Two other tables orders were taken before mine even though I arrived prior to them. Just plain un at tentative. So sorry could really only give two stars and most likely will not go out of my way to return.

My wife and have been eating here for about 5 years now. Is it different? No. Is it fancy or some sort of an amazing culinary experience? Not really. Its just real. Family owned and super friendly staff, excellent prices, and consistent food every time I order. I can get spicy hot plus the little tubs if the chile pepper oil if I wish. The dumplings and the won tons are always the same, never gross or disappointing. Chicken is cooked appropriately, stir fried and deep fried and tasty as can be. They actually have "healthy" options with stir fry veggies (with or without meat choice) and a delicious low-salt garlic sauce. What I actually love is the combo packages like "happy family" or pkg of the month (see webpage). They change monthly but if I am in a rush I can call, say take out happy family, and 10-15 minutes later I have a meal with soup, egg/spring rolls, and 3 pint dinners and also plain and fried rice. It is convenient, consistent, and fun for the family. I can't complain about coupons, pretty sure we never use any but the prices are good - and dinner is ready.

They have the best wonton here! The wontons are really stuffed, lots of greens and scallions, amazing broth. It is hands down my favorite wonton. This place is tucked away in the corner of the Bush's/Trader Joes Shopping Plaza. Other than that the food is typical American style Chinese food. However, this place takes the prize for the price of their carryout "happy meal" for 18.25. You get for example Beef Broccoli (Qt.), Sweet & Sour Chicken (Pt.), Orange Chicken (spicy) (Pt.), Wonton Soup (Qt.), Steamed White Rice (Pt.),Plain Fried Rice with Chicken (Pt.), 2 Egg Rolls 2 Spring Rolls....The menu changes monthly and can be viewed online. Seriously, cheap!!!! They also have family packs for 25 bucks, normally 42. That menu also changes monthly and can be seen online. Dinners for two or three specials. Monthly lunch specials for 3.95 and dinner 6.75 (which includes an egg roll and chicken fried rice) I have never seen prices like this, and the food is quality. Best kept secret deal ever!! Party room for 30.

Live in Rochester Hills and have been searching desperately for a good Chinese restaurant with no luck...... until now. Read review, seemed hit or miss, but decided to try it, and we are glad we did. It's in a strip mall, so scary to me at first. When you enter it seems really tiny, but there is a whole other section behind the magic wall. Staff is friendly and quick. Little Chinese ladies with push carts delivering food and taking away your used dishes. Menu had a wide variety of dishes to choose from. Portions were huge and pretty inexpensive. They have lunch specials for $4. Food was yummy. The thing that made me laugh was that you got ice cream with your meal for dessert. My husband ordered and was handed a little Blue Bunny cup. That is hysterical to me. Overall, we left happy, and will definitely be back.

I've been coming here since I was a kid. The only thing that has changed is the frames on the same waitress' glasses. It's quick, good, and cheap. Great deals at lunch at lunch and dinner that include soup, egg roll, meal and icecream. It's no 5 star dress up fancy restaurant. It's the local chinese place that lasts 2-3 meals for under $10.

As others stated, it isn't fine cuisine, but it is great for the price. Quick and friendly staff, great cheap specials, and free delivery in the area.

Not too bad considering two people can eat lunch for under $7. Food is good but not great. I will eat here again.

This was possibly the worst Chinese I've ever had. I saw a sign in the front window for 35% off to celebrate its 35 year anniversary. We figured, "35 years? It would have to be good to last such a long time." Wrong. Dead wrong. Bad soup, bad entrees, and we even got bizarre fortunes from the after-dinner cookie.

I have to say that i do love this place. I eat here about once a week, being close to the Busch's Plaza location. They used to run a fancier restaurant across the street at Meadowbrook Mall, before the mall was torn down and replaced by the Village outdoor shops. The lunch-time deals are the best. Aside from the monthly $3.95 lunch specials, you can also get anything on the menu with soup, egg roll, tea and a heaping helping of the entree with rice for about $6. I usually order the szechuan beef, although I have tried the General's Tao's chicken, the almond chicken, and many others. One item that is very tasty and a cut above the normal Chinese American fare is the chicken in black bean (garlic) sauce. Simple, yet effective. It has dropped off the menu, but just ask for it. It's quite good, but does not come with the egg roll. I am not a fan of the eggrolls particularly, They can be heavy on the bean-sprouts. But the hot and sour soup is very good, especially with a few fried won-ton chips thrown in. The same waitresses have been working there for years, and know all the regulars by sight. They also remember what I normally order, and joke around. They are very efficient unless the place is crowded. And it does tend to stay busy from lunch hour all the way through closing at 10PM. Dinner is a bit more expensive, and carryout is fast and efficient. Family-run for over thirty years, Oceania is an institution. It's not the best Chinese restaurant I've ever eaten at, but it's one of my favorites. There's just something about it that keeps me coming back. I think it's the family feel, and knowing that I'll get a consistent meal.

Went here for take-out earlier this week and was really excited to try it out. But considering the way both my boyfriend and I felt after eating the food, we'll not be going back. The thing is, I don't have high expectations for inexpensive Chinese food; it basically just has to be "good enough." But this was the worst cheap Chinese food I've ever had. Everything seemed great up until we opened the take-out containers; things basically went downhill from there. Here's the rating breakdown of my experience: Ease of ordering over the phone: A Ease of picking up items: A (they were ready and waiting, exactly 10 minutes after ordering) Sheer amount of food, considering price: A+ Appearance of food on first inspection: B (saucy dishes were on the soupy side, not much meat/veggies in the fried rice) Taste of food while eating: C (cashews in the cashew chicken dish were soggy, veggies were overcooked, sauces tasted "off", even the fortune cookies tasted odd) How we felt after eating: D- (no one got sick, but both of us had terrible "gut rot" for the entire night, and still didn't feel well in the morning) I hate to be a downer because it seems like a lot of other Yelpers love this place for being quick, cheap and good ... I'll give a thumbs-up for the quick and cheap, but I wouldn't call this food anywhere near "good." Just thinking about it makes my stomach hurt.

This place is the ultimate dive Chinese restaurant. I used to go here all the time for lunch when i hung out in Auburn Hills. There lunch specials are something like $3.50. There servers are far from friendly but that's part of the experience. With this said i should note again how much of a dive this place is...

Oceania Inn has been my family's Chinese food of choice for years and years and years. If I didn't know that I loved it, I might be somewhat skeptical of the yellow gravy that comes with the almond chicken, but it is freaking good. I have been caught red-handed dipping pieces of fried (yes, not just the fried chicken, but the little bits of fried batter) in the yellow stuff. I can't explain it, but I also can't seem to stay away. I don't get to eat here very often these days, but my brother does his part in making sure this place will never go out of business by eating here at least once a week. It's definitely not healthy, but what Chinese food is? I could use a little of their fried goodness right now...

If you're looking for a Chinese Bistro such as PF Chang's - this place is probably not it. However, it is important to really take a look at what this place offers. They have a very neat, clean, well-kept and moderately decorated interior. The carpeting, seating, walls and total interior ambiance does not speak "crappy Chinese food hole-in-the-wall." With that being said - this place is already a tier above the worst Chinese places out there. If you opt to eat in, there is some complimentary hot Chinese tea, which is nice. Various appetizers, soups and combos here are outrageously great in big portions of food at cheap prices. You can share an appetizer with some friends, get your own entree that comes with an egg roll, soup, meat(s), and a heaping serving of rice and still leave paying well under $10. And on top of it - their portions can be split up into 2 separate dinners. Unless you're ravenously starving - chances are you can eat half and bag half. Pass on the appetizer and go for the entree alone which generously comes with an egg roll and soup to appetize, and you can easily just pay $5-9 here. Take out is the cheapest way to go, but with the relatively warm service, modestly cozy interior, and complimentary hot tea - I would deem the tip to be worth the dine-in! It's not easy to find a Chinese place that combines moderate quality of food, cozy clean interior, and super econo-friendly prices like this - so just from that standpoint, I bumped this place from a strong 3-star to a weak 4-star. Again, the food here is just a solid tier above your typically greasy, low quality Chinese - and yes they probably have a couple grams of MSG in each dish - but all in all if you want some quick, cheap, satisfying cheap Chinese - and would like leftovers (who doesn't love leftover Chinese for a late night snack), then definitely give this place a shot. My girlfriend and I would have a sit down dinner here from time to time again in our undergrad days, and after a recent visit, we still felt it was validated as a good cheap meal in the area. We will happily go again one day.

The reason I gave 5 stars is because of price so affordable. 3 people for lunch cost $20.00, which includes tips. Food is good and lunch price is one of the lowest in the area. I would definately take my family there again.

I had the General Tao's chicken. It was ok, but not spicy like the menu said, and $8 for lunch seemed a little steep. The place was very clean, though. They're currently running a month-long lunch special for $3.xx that I'd get if I went back.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
